BioTech Annecto has the pleasure of inviting you to the presentation given by Jim Cochrane, Recherche Clinique Cochrane, Inc., titled:
‘Who’s the Boss: Being an Independent CRA’.
Jim started to work in clinical research in 1994 after graduating from Concordia University with a Bachelors’ in Exercise Science and the University of Waterloo with a Masters’ in Kinesiology. After a brief start with Glaxo as both data manager and regional CRA, he established himself over 4 and half years as a senior data manager and clinical/data project manager with Phoenix International Life Sciences (now INC). Following short stays with Pfizer and Moncoa Medical Research, again in both data management and clinical research, Jim’s career as a home-based CRA took off in 2001 when he joined Innovus Research (now inVentiv Clinical). He became an ACRP certified CRA in 2004. In 2008, cut-backs at i3 Research presented him with an opportunity to become an independent clinical research consultant. Since then, Jim have worked with pharmaceutical companies, CROs and independent sites as a CRA, Auditor and Quality Specialist.
Jim will address the following questions:
1) Becoming a Clinical Research Associate
. o Many paths to the same career
. o Current state of the market
2) Process and transformation from employee to businessman
. o determine what you know and what you don’t
. o learn to wear many hats: CRA, business developer, IT, accountant, lawyer, insurance agent
3) Thinking outside the box
. o how to find work
. o what type of work can you do?
. o full-time vs part-time
4) Answering the many masters – who is the boss?
. o contract and workload management
. o life / work balance
5) Managing your own career
. o training manager
. o awareness of the industry and future trends
6) Pro’s and Con’s

Pharmacovigilance (PV) specialist and PV coordinator needed
There is a position for a Pharmacovigilance coordinator available in Laval. The person applying should be quick to learn databases, very attentive to detail and get along with people. The job contains a lot of clerical duties and that should be also understood.
For that job, the person has to be also quick with computers and to be able to have »many irons on the fire » simultaneously. Deadlines and compliance are key elements, so the person has to be able to keep up a certain speed and be still very attentive to details and remain polite and professional with colleagues, as everyone is under the same pressure. What matters in the end, is how well the whole team performs, not just one employee. We need to help each other and we get help from each other. We encourage qualified candidate to apply through us.
